Women have historically been vastly underrepresented in the manufacturing industry. For the last 50 years, it turns out that women have only accounted for about 30 percent of the sector, a statistic that holds true to this day. Women in management positions are an even rarer occurrence. However, there are still many female leaders who have made their mark on the industry, such as these five women manufacturing CEOs.
1. Victoria Holt
Victoria Holt is the current President and CEO of Proto Labs. This successful leader has had a long career in the manufacturing and business industry, which started with a variety of jobs under Monsanto in the late 1970s. In the early 2000s, she made her way up the ladder serving multiple leadership positions until she earned the title of President and CEO of Spartech Corporation in 2010. She has now worked as an executive at Proto Labs for more than five years.
2. Lisa Lunsford
Nine years ago, Lisa Lunsford co-founded Global Strategic Supply Solutions, a company that manufactures automotive parts. Since then, she has remained CEO of the company and earned her title from Crain’s Detroit Business as one of the most influential women in Michigan. She has also been active as a board member of multiple organizations such as The Children’s Center, the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program, The Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Wayne State University Mike Illitch School of Business Global Supply Chain Management Advisory Board.
3. Barbara Humpton
Siemens is a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing company with Barbara Humpton leading as a U.S. CEO. After earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Wake Forest University, she served in leadership positions at Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen Hamilton and other companies until joining Siemens in 2011. She served as both President and CEO of Siemens Government Technologies, Inc. from 2015 until 2018.
4. Elizabeth Barry
Elizabeth Barry has been serving as CEO of Delta Systems, a leading manufacturer of outdoor power tool elements, since 2007. Barry has been a part of the company, however, at least twice as long — she became a board member in 1995 and eventually president 10 years later. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and a Master’s in business administration.
5. Feng Ying Wang
Great Wall Motors is a Chinese manufacturing company that produces motor vehicles like pickup trucks and SUVs. Feng Ying Wang has acted as CEO since 2003 and is the first woman to earn this title within the company. She started her career by joining Great Wall Motors back in 1991 after graduating from the Tianjin Institute of Finance. In 2018, she further demonstrated her ambition and influence by revealing the company’s plans to double their vehicle sales by 2025.
